This is the view from my desk, sort of hard to see in this image, but it is looking out through about 6 feet of snow. I dug this tunnel yesterday to let some light into my room as I wes getting fed up with the dark.

What happens if the door gets snowed in...are you trapped till it thaws?
Fortunately there are several doors, and the front door is in an exposed location, so the snow usually doesn't build up there.
The safety huts out in the field actually have doors that open inward to prevent people getting trapped.
