I am currently sitting in Halifax Airport, waiting for my flight to Toronto, from thete I'll be heading to Winnipeg and staying there for the night. Tomorrow I'll be heading for Waboden MB by road. I'll stay overnight there then go up to Lynn Lake, it looks like there is about 2 weeks of work up there.

Capreol Lake
Well I am back from Sudbury now, I don't have many pix to show for it. Here is one, a view from on top of one of the small hills in the area where we were working. The yellow cylinder is the surface coil, it is basically an antenna for out Pulse EM system. As you can see there are no large trees in this area, that is because over the last 100 years they were all poisoned by SO2 comming from the smelting opperations. In the 70s the built a massive smoke stack to make the SO2 someone elses problem. Vegetation has returned, but it is a slow process because the soils are thin and contaminated.

Where am I ?
Today I am in Winnipeg, just got in after a 700km drive from Thompson, it was a long drive on very straight roads. I thought you might be interested to see my path on a map, so here it is. there are 3 legs, the final, from Winnipeg to Marathon is what I'll be doing tomorrow. It is close to 1000km, so will take most of that day. I'll try and stop in some places worth photographing.

Frosty morning in Lynn Lake

Who would have thought it, all that messing around with antennas finally paid off. Here is a the sync antenna we rigged up. Our receiver and transmitter need to synchronised, there are several ways to do that and for this job we are using radio sync, so we required an antenna. Initially we had the antenna standing on the ground, but this only gave us about 200m range, which wasn't enough. We searched around and found a big metal water pipe in a scrap pile and rigged it up with some wire to lift the antenna about 12 feet off the ground. We boosted our range to about 800m.

The Farley Mine, Lynn Lake Manitoba. In the foreground is some of the waste rock, you can see that even this discarded rock is quite mineralized. the old headframs stands abandoned in the distance. The ramp on the left goes down into the old underground workings, which are now flooded. We are surveying on this site to see if we can find and deposits that have previousley been missed. It would be nice to find enough to allow this mine to reopen and breath some life back into this town.
